Remington 887 recall

Remington has issued as recall notice on model 887s manufactured between December 1, 2013 and November 24, 2014.

The issue seems to be that the firing pin can be stuck forward. The immediate conclusion that you should jump to is “slam fire” and indeed that would be correct.

However in this case it can also result in a out of battery discharge. That means the shell can go off before the bolt has locked closed. This can result in considerable damage to the firearm, and possibly also to the shooter.
